chevy chase is the real american asshole... or something like thatI just got back from SXSW last night and while I'm compelled to write all about it, I'm still getting over the 13 hour drive. Leaving Austin at 8am and arriving in St. Louis around 9pm was pretty spectacular, except for the drive through Mother-flippin-Oklahoma. What is the deal with that state and their endless toll roads??? Next time I'm flying.
Besides that one minor complaint, the trip was probably one of the best I've had. Downtown Austin is like no other city I've experienced and I can't wait to go back because apparently it's still bustling even without the festival. Oh, and the first day that we got there we spent a while driving around looking for a place to park when I looked out the window and saw the guys from Vampire Weekend! I noticed the lead singers face first, but I was sure it was them when I saw that one of his friends was wearing a sweater tied around his shoulders. Couldn't mistake them for anyone else. Just walking around and people watching was fun, and it really made me wish that St. Louis had a cooler downtown. Even though it's starting to shape up, I can't imagine it ever feeling as safe and lively as Austin did.
Anyway, I'm still exhausted and my bed just didn't feel right last night so I couldn't get to sleep. Is it possible that sleeping in a hotel bed is now more comfortable than my own bed? I'll give it a few more nights, but after that you may find me at the Holiday Inn.
